If you are charged with a speeding offense or any traffic offense in a Highway Safety Corridor then the fine doubles.

Virginia Speeding Ticket Court Costs

Court costs for Speeding tickets (also known as Processing Fees) are $62.00 for the first traffic ticket and $11 for each additional charge with the same court date.

Maximum Fine for Speeding Tickets in Virginia

When a driver goes to court to challenge a speeding ticket, the worst maximum fine the judge may order is $250 in addition to the $62 court costs. (If you are charged with speeding in a Highway Safety Corridor then the fine can be up to $500).

Additional Court Costs for Speeding Tickets

  • Trial in Absence Fee: If a driver does not prepay his speeding ticket and does not appear in court then the court will try the defendant in abstentia (in their absence). There is a $35 additional fee for trials in abstentia.
  • Credit/Debit Card Fee: There is a 4% surcharge for paying your speeding ticket fines and court costs with a credit or debit card.
  • Online Payment Fee: There is a $1 convenience fee for paying your fines and court costs online.
